“Framing Memories of Vietnam in ‘Forgetting Vietnam'” Essay

The new issue of Verge: Studies in Global Asias is out — “Forgetting Wars,” edited by Tina Chen, Josephine Nock-Hee Park and We Jung Yi. I was honored to contribute an essay with fellow colleagues on Trinh T. Minh-ha’s extraordinary video Forgetting Vietnam.

“Issue 5.2’s Codex features a collaborative review of Trinh T. Minh Ha’s documentary Forgetting Vietnam, which commemorates the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and its survivors. The reviews collected in this feature refract the generative nature of Trinh’s video work, framing it within four very different contexts: Third Cinema and its poetics/politics; neocolonial/Enlightenment driven dualism and its unsettling; structures of attention that dis-identify from labor and capitalist accumulation; and the complex memoryscapes evoked in diasporic film and video making.” (Verge)
