The 8th Annual International Conference on Small Cinemas took place in Bilbao and San Sebastian, Basque Country, Spain from September 20-22, 2017. This year’s theme is Diversity in Glocal Cinemas: Language, Culture, Identity.
Presented “New Documentary Visibilities: The Tongues of Heaven/Root Tongue
Transmedia Digital Art Platform” on the Cinema of First Nations Panel, chaired by Davinia Thornley of University of Otago, Aotearoa New Zealand. She presented her paper “Critiquing Cross-Cultural Collaboration in Aotearoa New Zealand’s Small Cinema,” along with Jennifer L. Gauthier’s (Randolph College, Virginia) “‘Glocalising’ Genre: Indigenous Filmmakers Reinvent the Sci Fi Film,” and Chris Lalonde’s (SUNY Oswego) “Refusing the Art of Forgetfulness: Jeff Barnaby’s Rhymes for Young Ghouls.”
